The Step Up Program is a 4-week intensive experience designed to equip young Black men with the foundational tools needed to thrive in corporate and professional environments. Piloting at Dillard University, we have the opportunity to work closely with Sophomores and Juniors as they prepare for summer internships and life after college.
Throughout the program, participants engage in workshops focused on professional communication, executive presence, workplace etiquette, and career readiness. A key component of Step Up is intentional mentorship. Each participant receives direct guidance, accountability, and exposure to professionals who model leadership, integrity, and excellence in their respective fields. Our goal is not only to prepare them for interviews, but to support their long-term growth as confident, capable leaders.
Professional image is also central to the experience. Through education around corporate standards and access to professional attire, participants gain an understanding of how presentation influences opportunity. We believe image opens the door, but mentorship and skill sustain success. By pairing wardrobe readiness with communication training and ongoing mentorship, we are creating a comprehensive workforce pipeline.
At the conclusion of the program — and well beyond — we remain committed to supporting participants as they transition into internships, careers, and leadership roles. Step Up is not a one-time intervention; it is the beginning of a sustained professional journey.
